Caring. Power.

Monday 8 June 2009

There are those who go into the caring professions in order to look after people; then there are those who do it because it gives them power. Choosing to help someone who has no choice about whether or whom to ask – that’s nearly as potent as refusing to help.

The same happens with those who find themselves caring without having made a career decision: the significant others of disability; parents whose children will never walk; children whose parents were in accidents. Some take naturally to looking after. Some get nothing from their situation but the power.
